Letterpress Day

I am starting a letterpress class at Foothill College at the end of August. We were asked to come in early to sort and clean letters. It was wonderful to put the lead type in my hands and ponder the vast possibilities of designing using letters and punctuation. I was particularly impressed with Mr. Goudy’s “Q’s” and flourishes that day.

One Response to “Letterpress Day”

My gramdfather was a printer in PA by trade and had his own print shop with what would be considered now antique presses. He had drawers and drawers of all of this. I have many fond memories as a 14 year old working side by side with him, finding the correct letter or comma for things he would print. In his later years he would go to the local museum and run the old fashioned presses for school tours. Lots of fun.
